Faculty Advisors

"Serving as PSE advisor gives me a chance to build relationships and trust with students. With trust in place, I’m able to teach, coach and mentor with high impact results for my students."

How Should Faculty Advisors Support their PSE Chapter?

  1. Stay Informed: Keep up-to-date on the operations of the PSE chapter and offer support.
  2. Engage Resources: Serve as a liaison between the university and the PSE chapter, facilitating communication and support. Help the chapter contact and engage with campus resources.
  3. Guide don’t Lead: PSE is a student-led organization. Your support is crucial to their success, but each chapter must be fully run by the students within each chapter. All Chapter operations also must be completed by the students.
  4. Policy Adherence: Follow and adhere to University and PSE’s policies, as well as state and federal laws, ensuring the chapter’s compliance.
  5. Policy Knowledge: Be knowledgeable of policies listed in the university’s student handbook to provide accurate guidance.
  6. Offer Guidance: Provide advice on goal setting, organization management, program planning, problem-solving, and assessment.
  7. Understand Constitution: Understand PSE’s policies and be aware of its purpose and objectives.
  8. PSE Event Support: PSE hosts 4 events each year (Leadership Summit, Fall Conferences, Winter Officer Retreat, and the National Convention). Faculty Advisors are encouraged to attend with the students. Faculty Advisors receive complimentary registration for these events. More information on these events can be found on our website under Events and Competitions.
  1. Connection with HQ: Review communication sent by PSE HQ.
  2. Alumni Communication: Speak with the chapter’s alumni advisors at least once each semester and meet with PSE HQ Staff if visiting.
  3. Share Successes: Share the chapter’s successes with the university community to promote recognition and support.
  4. Meeting Attendance: Attend 1-2 chapter meetings and/or chapter events (service, fundraisers, professional development events) each semester to stay engaged and supportive.
  5. Office Hours: Schedule regular office hours or appointments with chapter officers to provide ongoing support and guidance.
  6. Funding Assistance: Assist the chapter in obtaining all eligible university funding to support its activities and initiatives.
  7. Faculty Awareness: Increase awareness of PSE among other faculty members to foster a supportive academic environment.
"I am in my second year as a faculty advisor for The Ohio State University’s PSE chapter and it has been a wonderful experience! The students are genuinely invested in the chapter. They work incredibly hard throughout the year to create activities and events that provide them with professional experiences to build their resumes. I am truly impressed with their efforts."
